We’ve just been notified that we’ve also been nominated for a Best Design Award at the European Tech Awards. There are some great websites in the category so we’re extremely pleased to even be nominated for such an award. If you’d like to help us out then click here to place your vote. Again, there’s no need to register and it only takes a few seconds to cast your vote.

It looks like the “glitterati of digital publishing” will be there, and it will no doubt be a very glamorous and prestigous event. We’re absolutely thrilled to be short-listed. But how’s a wee start-up supposed to compete with the BBC et al when the cost to attend the ceremony is £300? All donations gratefully received…
Although Heath Ledger has been receiving significant Oscar Buzz for well over a year, best picture speculation for the Dark Knight has been slightly more muted. Major blockbusters rarely star at the Oscars, with notable exception #1 film Titanic, which won a record 11 Oscars including Best Picture — Dark Knight stands at #2 all-time in box office receipts with a chance for #1 after its re-release in January. Expert pundits have consistently placed Dark Knight ‘on the bubble’ for nomination, giving it a roughly 50/50 shot of being nominated, up from a lower (approximate 35% chance) earlier this year. What changed? Well a couple of things.. 1) Warner Brothers launched their “For Your Consideration” campaign which seemed to energize the DK Best Picture buzz and 2) Some of the other top contenders for the spot were underpreforming at the box office and with critics. InTrade predictors have similarly been gradually edging up DK’s chances, from 30% to near 50% currently — closely in line with the expert panel predictions. But while the experts waited for these developments, predictors at Hubdub pushed initial predictions for a DK nomination to 70% immediately. Why are Hubdub’s predictions so much higher? Two possible explanations: 1) They are overly-exuberant about a movie the majority of them loved 2) They are more correctly reading the buzz levels of this movie among Academy voters.
Image by FrogStarB via FlickrDecember is truly the awards season. We’ve been shortlisted by DrinkTank as a finalist in the best UK start-up outside London. DrinkTank is London’s top start-up social event organized by the guys from Huddle.
The UK start-up scene tends to be very concentrated on London but there are some strong contenders in the category. Slice of the Pie is a very interesting music market place where you can buy a stake in an emerging artist. Fav.or.it is quite a cool RSS/news reader (who would get my vote in the best URL category).
Before you go checking that out what made the top 5 remember to vote here.
