WeeWorld Comes To Edinburgh
Last night Steve Young of WeeWorld came to Edinburgh to talk to the Edinburgh Internet Marketing Meetup. He took us through the story of how WeeWorld was formed, through the creation of the first WeeMee to the 26 million WeeMee’s in circulation today. It is an inspirational Scottish Web 2.0 success story with the company now employing 70 staff including 50 people based in Glasgow.
From a marketing angle, we learned that WeeMee’s are naturally viral as users want to share them with their friends. They are so distinctive that when their friends see one they want one as well. WeeWorld really stumbled on this when they found users taking screen shots of the first WeeMee’s which couldn’t be exported. Secondly, the WeeMee’s have largely spread through instant messenger with their average user age of 16.
